Mary Shelley is a biographical drama film directed by Haifaa al-Mansour and written by Emma Jensen. The film follows the story of Mary Shelley, the author who wrote the world-renowned novel Frankenstein. Mary Shelley's life is depicted in the movie, starting from her teenage years when she fostered a romance with Percy Shelley. Mary and Percy Shelley run away and elope after Percy's estranged wife committed suicide. Soon after, Mary starts working on her novel Frankenstein, which she continued to develop and revise throughout her life. The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017 and stars Elle Fanning as Mary Shelley, with Douglas Booth portraying Percy Shelley. The movie was received positively by critics who praised Elle Fanning's performance as Mary Shelley and the film's portrayal of the poet's life.
